The Iron Age to Roman transition in Britain from the perspective of coin hoards

SulhampstedStatersACB.jpg

This AHRC funded Collaborative Doctoral Award (CDA) between the University of Leicester and the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford will explore the changes in British Iron Age and Roman coin hoarding between c. 200 BC and AD 96. The approach is archaeological rather than purely numismatical but looks at the cultural, religious and political influences on coin hoarding too. This PhD seeks to bridge the divide between the Late Iron Age and the Roman period, periods which traditionally fall to separate specialists.

The project started in October 2019 and is due to finish in August 2026.
