Anni studied archaeology at the University of Liverpool and after graduating spent several years in commercial archaeology, running small to large field and desk-based projects including post-excavation assessment. In 2008 Anni joined the Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) as Finds Liaison Officer (FLO) for Oxfordshire & West Berkshire, identifying and recording archaeological artefacts found by members of the public. She now works part-time as metalwork specialist for one of the country's leading commercial archaeology companies.

In her 11 years as FLO, Anni identified and recorded nearly 17,000 objects dating from the Palaeolithic right through to the 19th century, including over 4500 coins. She has conducted emergency excavations of findspots including burials and hoards and authored many reports on artefacts from not just Oxfordshire but surrounding counties too. Anni produced annual PAS round-ups for South Midlands Archaeology and local journal Oxoniensia. Alongside this Anni has over nearly two decades of experience of the Treasure Act 1996. As well as authoring the reports for HM Coroner, she often attended court during inquest to answer questions.

In September 2019 Anni left the PAS to take up a fully-funded PhD between the University of Leicester and the Ashmolean Museum, with a research title of 'The Iron Age to Roman transition in Britain from the perspective of coin hoards'. See more information on this exciting project on Anni's 'Projects' page.

Anni is a popular and well-known specialist and archaeologist, and is held in high esteem by many in the metal detecting community. She runs Middle Ground Archaeology (MGA), an new initiative supported by The Searcher Magazine and employed by Detectival to provide on-site rally recording and archaeological support. You can read more about MGA and rallies here.

Anni holds an MSc in Applied Landscape Archaeology from the University of Oxford and is a full Member of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists. Anni works as a part-time freelance finds specialist offering competitive rates and continues to work with local groups, give talks, and author articles on small finds.
